Imagine, you wake up one day, get ready to go to work, grab your car keys and oxygen cylinder
on your back, put an enormous mask on, and leave your house. On the way, you see no
children on the streets, no birds chirping, no dogs, no trees, no parks, no lakes, only humans
and cemented buildings. Looks like a Marvel movie, where a superhero will come and save
your city. This scenario will become real momentarily. But the only difference is that no
superhero will come to save it. You are the superhero for your environment. You have to save
it.

According to UNEP, over 4.7 million hectares of forests are lost every year. Nearly 80% of
untreated wastewater is discharged into rivers and oceans. 50% of coral reefs have already
been lost. Global Warming increased by 1.5 degrees Celsius. Global greenhouse gas emissions
have increased. Our Earth, our eco-system is experiencing a slow death.
To spread awareness, World Environment Day is observed on June 5 annually since 1974.
This day is designated by United Nations to remind us of our deeds and reflect on our actions
and their subsequent consequences on the planet. We have to revive our planet today so that
our children can live customarily tomorrow. It takes small actions every day and by everybody.
Plant more trees, forests and agricultural lands. Clean garbage alongside the rivers, lakes, and
oceans.
World Environment Day also preaches about the eco-system. It is the concept of
communication between animals, trees, and human beings. We are destroying the forests,
thus depriving animals of their natural habitat. This is becoming an ideal condition for diseases
to spread. The balance that mother nature has created on the Earth should not be destroyed.
Hence, restoring the eco-system is the only solution to enhance the livelihood of future
generations and save biodiversity from collapsing.
World Environment Day 2022 will be held under the theme Only One Earth. It focuses to live
sustainably in harmony with nature. The motto is- this planet is our only home, whose finite
resources humanity must safeguard.
Oh, Mother earth!
You are becoming so hot,
Is that your rage?
Coz forests got killed, Oceans got trash,
Air got smog,
Land got plastic.
Oh, Mother earth!
You are becoming dull and pale, Coz we all failed.
Let’s vow to give our Mother Earth the same freshness and give new birth to our
birthplace.
